3rd competition organised by the International Sommelier Association (ASI), in Hong Kong
From 4 to 7 November, Jean-Pascal Paubert, board member of the “Union de la Sommellerie Française in Bordeaux”, was a judge at the 3rd competition organised by the International Sommelier Association (ASI), in Hong Kong.
Mr. Paubert (far right in the picture) has been working with the teams from Vatel Bordeaux since September 2015 as an advisor to the “Bordeaux International Wine & Spirits Academy”. He is involved mainly with first and second year students in MBA Specialization Wine & Spirit Management, organizing workshops, wine tours, work placements and jobs, but the entire college benefits from his expertise in the restaurant business as well as in wines and spirits.
The competition rewards the top sommelier from Asia and the Pacific Region and, this year, from a list of 18 candidates of excellence, it was Japanese consultant sommelier Hiroshi ISHIDA (aged 46) who was selected, after he had won both the theoretical stages (knowledge of vines and wines) and the practical tests (service and presentation of wine). He will be representing at the next competition, to find the “World’s Best Sommelier”, to be held in Mendoza (Argentina) in the spring 2016.
