Interview with Zorini Hualngo, student in Bachelor in International Hospitality Management
Originally from India, Zorinliani Hualngo, known to everyone as Zorini, is a third-year student of the Bachelor degree in International Hospitality Management at Vatel Bordeaux.

How did you hear about Vatel?
I first heard of the Vatel group through my cousin who had pursued a Bachelor’s degree Operational Manager in International Hospitality in Vatel Nimes.
Why did you choose Vatel?
After having spoken with my cousin and her experience at Vatel Nimes, I continued my research of the school and was highly interested by the program offered by the school.
Why did you choose to come ton France and Bordeaux specifically?
Although there are various Vatel schools around the world, including a campus in India, I wanted to experience a different culture and was most drawn by the Vatel schools in France, the foundation of the group. Then, I looked through my options to continue my studies in English and came across Vatel Bordeaux which ultimately landed me here.
Can you describe to us your arrival in France?
When I arrived in France, my biggest struggle was the language barrier. Although some people spoke basic levels of English, getting around could still be tough some days but even without understanding each other, people were still helpful and kind enough to try to help out. But I will say that knowing at least the basics in French would be extremely helpful.

Did you get some help from Vatel to settle down?
My arrival to France was smooth and I cannot thank Chloé Cassagne enough. She is the head of Student Affairs department and was the biggest help in my transition to the country and to the school. Months before even stepping foot in the country, Chloé guided me with everything from administrative affairs such as housing and banking matters to giving me a step-by-step instruction on what to do when I got to France. She even provided me with a detailed brochure including information about the city (places to visit), emergency contact details, etc. Thank you Chloé for all that you do!
Can you describe to us your experience in the school?
My experience at Vatel Bordeaux has been enriching. I’ve had the opportunity to truly explore the hospitality industry thanks to our two-week practical trainings and two mandatory internships. The school has good network with renowned establishments for these operational trainings and I am so thankful for my experiences which have opened doors for me.
At the same time, during our time at school, our teachers provide us with great insights in each of their mastered fields and allowed us to grasp a good understanding of the management aspects of hospitality.
How was your student life in Bordeaux?
Bordeaux is a charming city with good food, beautiful architecture and a welcoming atmosphere. Of course, it is not Paris, but in fact you might really enjoy the relaxed pace of life and the little streets filled with restaurants and cafés to explore.
Did you enjoy your time in Bordeaux?
Even though we were mostly here for around 6 months out of the year due to our internships, I enjoyed Bordeaux’s mix of calmness and energy which was really good balance for us students.
What do you like the most about the school?
What I appreciate most about Vatel Bordeaux is the strong focus on practical learning. From day one you’re encouraged to engage in a real hospitality setting. On top of that, I enjoyed being in an international community and meeting people from different cultures.

What would be your recommendations for prospective students from India?
Enjoy the spicy / massala flavoured food while it lasts!
On a more serious note, these are my honest recommendations:
- Be open to new cultures and experiences. The hospitality industry is global and more adaptable you are, the more you will grow.
- Try to learn some basic French before arriving. It helps a lot in daily life and especially during practical trainings & internships.
- Manage your time well between studies, internships, and having your personal life too. Enjoy it all while you’re here, 3 years goes by sooner than you’d know.
