Château Carbonnieux, an exceptional wine for our first group of MBA graduates majoring in Wine & Spirits
On 9 July 2015, the graduation ceremony for our first MBA class majoring in Wine & Spirits Management was held at Château Carbonnieux, which produces a Grand Cru Classé Pessac-Léognan.
It was an immense honour for our students to be welcomed to such a prestigious estate and to have as their “mentor” Mr. Philibert Perrin, one of the current owners. The Perrin family purchased the estate in 1956 and immediately launched a restoration and modernisation project that has resulted in increasingly high-quality wine year on year.
We arrived at the estate at about 7.30pm and were met by its owner and our host Philibert Perrin, who gave us a short history before leading us on a tour of the fermentation rooms and the two splendid cellars filled with barrels (one for whites and the other for reds). He then took us into the family’s personal cellar of 20,000 bottles, the oldest dating from 1904.
Having completed our tour, we made our way to the Pitcher Room, which contains no less than a hundred male and female toby jugs, a collection belonging to Philibert Perrin’s father, Antony. This was the setting for the remainder of the evening. There was the traditional speech from our director, Mr. Glorieux, followed by the presentation of a bottle of Grand Cru Classé Château Carbonnieux red 2011 to each student.
The cocktail prepared by Franck Brunel (a former Vatel Bordeaux graduate and now the owner of the Epicure restaurant) was greatly appreciated by all. We spent a truly wonderful evening in magnificent surroundings and we would like to express our warmest thanks to Mr. Philibert Perrin for his welcome and his time.
