Marie Organ: 2013 Bachelor’s degree Valedictorian

Meet Marie Organ, the 2013 Vatel Schools Bachelor’s Degree Valedictorian from Vatel Bordeaux.

At the end of July 2013, Vatel final exam grades were made public. Congratulations to all students who received their Bachelor’s Degree in Hotel and Tourism Management and hats off for our Valedictorians!

Vatel School: Bordeaux

Overall Grade Average: 15.91/20 with such a high average, Marie is the Valedictorian of all the European Schools, obtaining the highest grades ever in Vatel in Bordeaux, which was founded in 1994!

Last Internship: Reception Desk at the Louis Corcyra Beach Hotel, a four-star hotel located in Corfu, Greece.

Projects: This summer, Marie worked as the Executive Assistant in the three-star Quality Hotel Saint Catherine in Bordeaux. She will be continuing her studies with her Master’s Degree in Vatel in Brussels.“When I finish this Master’s, I think I’ll continue studying and becoming really specialized, probably in Yield Management. Then, as a mid-term project, I’d like to work abroad while continuing to gain knowledge in this hugely complex industry of Hospitality Management. And after that, why not open my own company, somewhere abroad, if I have that opportunity.”

Exam results for 3rd year students are announced at the end of July, and most obtain a precious bachelor’s degree. This year, Marie Organ, a student at Vatel Bordeaux, came in first not only of her class, but of all the Vatel schools in Europe. We interviewed this brilliant, enthusiastic young woman who leaves nothing to chance…

– You came in first among all the European schools and obtained the highest grade in the history of Vatel Bordeaux. I imagine you are rather pleased with this…

Well, yes, I am very happy with the results because they are the culmination of 3 years of hard work. I hope I will be just as successful with exams in the coming years…

– How do you account for these excellent results?
I think it is a question of motivation more than anything else. When you really enjoy a profession and, what you do, you put a lot of effort into it. If you are determined, the hours of studying don’t seem quite so long!

– What impressed you most during the 3-year program?
First, how close the management team at Vatel Bordeaux is to students, and the care they take of them. Second, the professionalism and availability of teachers, who proved to be very patient and helped us to progress in many ways. As for myself, these 3 years just flew by!

– Do you have various job placements during this time? Which influenced you most?
My internship in Corfu, Greece, at the Louis Corcyra Beach Hotel**** was undoubtedly the most memorable experience. I learned a great deal there. This contributed greatly to both my professional and personal development, and gave me an even stronger desire to travel.

– What are your plans at this stage?
I will be starting a master’s degree course at Vatel Brussels in October. I would like to continue my studies thereafter and specialize – probably in yield management.
However, I may create my own business one day. In the meantime, I hope to do my very best as an employee, preferably abroad.

– How would you describe the “Vatel spirit”?
I would say that the “Vatel spirit” is the genius of bringing together students with tremendously different backgrounds and helping each one to find the path that best suits.
